Namaste

Namaste and a warm welcome to all.

As you can see my blog is about food and recipes. I love eating and trying out new recipes all the time.

Very often we mum's think of healthy and interesting food options that we can make for our kids especially when they are back from school knowing that their lunch boxes never come back home empty. Hence I always feel its important to give them a healthy and wholesome snack once they are home. When my kid comes home from school I always try and give him some source of carbohydrate combined with proteins along with this, a fruit and milk, or puddings made from milk. Kids normally can't eat too much at one time, so the portions can be small but giving them a little from each of these food group ensures a balanced meal.

I have some interesting ideas that I'd like to share with you all. You might find some of my recipes very basic but I am hoping that my blog is helpful not only for Indians but for people all around the world! Indian food is quite popular and enjoyed by most, so hopefully you can attempt recipes from here and make it yourself now, in your kitchen. Please do go through my recipes and give it a shot at trying them. Let me know how things turned out and if you enjoyed your experience of cooking.... Feel free to get in touch, share your experience, leave a comment or ask any questions you may have. Thank you for stopping by and taking a look! I do hope its helpful.

Happy cooking!

Pan Fried Tofu

I buy the beancurd (its written on the sides of the packet "Beancurd for frying") thats available in the local store. However, you can use any other tofu (you can even try this recipe with paneer cubes) that is available in your nearest store. This tofu is a soft one hence while flipping the tofu pieces handle them gently or they tend to break. This is how the packet looks:

This tofu (also available in the local store) is a more firm one and its easier when you flip them while applying the spices or flipping in the pan while frying. Also the firmer one can be added into curries so they wont break that easily.

Once you open the packet you will see the tofu is like one big block.

Slice the tofu into medium sized slices as shown:

SPICES YOU WILL NEED:
Salt
1/4 tspn Turmeric
1/4 tspn red chilli powder
1-2 tspn coriander powder
1 tspn dry mango powder

Sprinkle the spices on the sliced tofu pieces:

Gently press the surface of the tofu a little so that the spices stick onto it:

Now flip the tofu:

And add spices on this side as well:

Heat 1 tbspn of oil in a non stick pan:

When the oil is hot, slide the tofu gently into the pan:

Cover it and let it cook on a medium high flame for about 5 minutes:

The tofu will look something like this:

Now gently turn the tofu so the other side gets cooked as well:

Cover again and see that both sides are nicely done. This is how the soft tofu will be. You can have them with roti or even just like that.

And the firm tofu looks like this after its pan fried:

You can use which ever you prefer. Both taste great.

***I always knead chapati dough with tofu (I do not use any water at all). This way its more nutritious and kids don't even realize something is added into the dough. The rotis come out really soft. You must try this out!

  4. Yes Mehroo. You can marinate tofu pieces and barbeque it later, but use the firm tofu and handle it gently (when taking it to the venue or even otherwise) so you don't end up breaking the pieces. The other option is to take paneer which will also be as good in taste and easier to handle. Glad you like this tofu..try the chutney tofu as well.
